Dr. Camea Davis is an artist and arts-based qualitative researcher whose work lives at the intersection of creativity, inquiry, and community. Grounded in critical poetic inquiry, she uses spoken word poetry as both a method of analysis and a form of public scholarship—amplifying the voices and lived experiences of minoritized communities while positioning herself as an active witness to struggles for justice, inclusion, and visibility. Her artistic practice is not separate from her research; it is a core tool for meaning-making, allowing her to translate complex educational and social issues into forms that are accessible, humanizing, and deeply rooted in community narratives.
As a nationally recognized spoken word artist, Dr. Davis has performed, taught, and collaborated with communities across the U.S. and internationally, including her work with the First Wave Hip Hop Arts Learning Community and Theatre Ensemble. From 2018–2024, she served as the National Director of the Youth Poet Laureate Program, where she supported young artists in using poetry as a vehicle for civic engagement, leadership, and storytelling across more than 100 cities. Whether on stage, in classrooms, or through research, her work centers the transformative power of art to build connection, elevate youth voice, and foster more just and inclusive communities.

This collections of poems invites the reader into the poet's meditations on self, body, and community. It offers a contextually specific historization of one black women's experiences through preparation, pregnancy, and postpartum. Still this work invites readers to know themselves deeper through reflection on poems and prompts that wonder about themselves.
